Robin van Persie and OguzhanOzyakup still keep a distance from each other
Besiktas midfielder OguzhanOzyakup reveals he continues to maintain a distance with former Arsenal teammate Robin van Persie following the veteran's behaviour in a Turkish Cup game last term.
The 34-year-old bagged the sole goal in the 1-0 win over Besiktas in the round of 16 in February and he shortly after slid in front of Ozyakup to celebrate his goal.
Since then, Van Persie has received plenty of stick from the Besiktas fans including Ozyakup's wife, and the 25-year-old admits that they are yet to patch up, he told Socrates magazine: "We still do not talk, usually players make up after games but this was different. Maybe we will make up one day but it will not be the same as before. I do not really want to talk about this to be honest. I do not think I was in the wrong, if anything I was wrong to show Robin as much respect as I did."
Ozyakup spent four years at Arsenal between 2008 and 2012, but he could not make an impression under Arsene Wenger. Since moving to Besikas, Ozyakup has turned down to be an effective player at the heart of the midfield, and he is now more of a regular with the Turkish national side.
The Netherlands-born lad was linked with a potential return to Arsenal in the summer, but the move could not quite materialise with the Gunners loaded with options in the centre of the park. Meanwhile, Van Persie is approaching the limelight of his career, but he has still managed to break into the Netherlands national side.
The flying Dutchman was said to have suffered a serious knee injury during Holland's 4-0 World Cup qualifier defeat to France in late August, but he has since dismissed the claims. Besiktas lost 2-1 to Fenerbahce in their recent outing in the Turkish Super Lig.
