Patrice Evra Mocked Robin Van Persie after Manchester United Move
Patrice Evra says that he used to mock Robin van Persie for staying at Arsenal for an extended period. Robin Van Persie and Evra played together at Manchester United but it was only for a brief spell. This is after Van Persie was signed by Manchester United for a fee of around £ 22 million. Sir Alex Ferguson convinced Arsenal to let go of one of their star assets for a cheaper transfer fee since Van Persie only had a year left on his contract. The move became an instant hitVan Persie was able to score an incredible 30 goals in his first campaign with United. This almost single-handedly helped Manchester United to the 20th league title.
Patrice Evra has now spoken about the situations that forcedVan Persie to make the jump from Arsenal to Manchester United. He claims that it was a jump similar to making a move from a baby team into a professional football team. Arsenal have been criticised for several years for the lack of progress under Arsene Wenger. The change has finally come for the gunners with Unai Emery coming in as the new manager in place of Wenger, who has stepped down after more than two decades in charge of club. Evra claims that he initially used to mockVan Persie in the first few weeks at United.
“I give you an example when Robin van Persie joined Man United. First of all when he came I said ‘welcome to a proper team, a man team, not a baby team’ . And he laughed, but he understood straight away because I remember him saying ‘Patrice, to be fair, I just feel like now I’m playing for a big team because all of you win many trophies, many medals, and you still go in the gym before training, going in the gym after training,” said Evra.
