Robin Van Persie To Clarify His Feyenoord Future Soon
Netherlands international Robin van Persie has revealed that he could clarify his future with Feyenoord in the next couple of days. The Dutchman is currently contracted to his hometown club until June 2019, but he is unsure whether he can prolong his playing career for a full season in the Eredivisie.
Speaking after Feyenoord’s 3-2 win over Heerenveen, Van Persie said: “I played today and I am pleased we won. I will be meeting with Giovanni van Bronckhorst this week to discuss my future. I believe that by the end of next week there will be clarity regarding my future at Feyenoord. I am delighted at how well I have been received by fans here in the Netherlands. In my opinion, it is really nice to be appreciated by even fans of the opponents in away stadiums that is something different for me than what I experienced when I played in England and Turkey.”
Van Persie’s performances have been on a decline since his departure from Manchester United in 2015 and he is currently at a stage where he is pondering over a future away from the playing field. The Dutchman has suffered numerous niggles over his career which have hampered his progress and he is now at a situation where he has nothing much to prove.
The 34-year-old rejoined his hometown club from Fenerbahce during the winter transfer window and he has since enjoyed good success with the first-team. The veteran announced his comeback with a goal on his second debut with Feyenoord and he has since netted a further six goals in 13 appearances for the club. During this period, Van Persie has been offered the opportunity in a rather unaccustomed central midfield role but he has nevertheless delivered a couple of memorable performances for the 2016/17 league champions.
