GREENWOOD DELIGHTED WITH RVP COMPARISON
Manchester United striker Mason Greenwood is flattered to be compared with ex-Dutch international Robin Van Persie (RVP) whom he described as an all-time great.
Ex-Manchester United skipper turned Sky Sports pundit Gary Neville was one of the first people to notice the similarities between Greenwood and Robin Van Persie who fired the Red Devils to their last Premier League title in 2013. Robin Van Persie scored 26 goals the Premier League in his debut season as a Manchester United player and he proved to be the catalyst as his team beat defending champions Manchester City to the Premier League title. That season turned out to be the final one for legendary manager Sir Alex Ferguson in the Manchester United dugout.
England international Greenwood broke into the first team at Manchester United during the penultimate season having come through the youth system at the club. He has scored 29 goals for Manchester United till date.
Manchester United legend Neville drew comparison between Greenwood and RVP after the young Englishman scored in the 3-0 win over Brighton and Hove Albion in June 2020. Greenwood welcomed the comparison with the Dutchman in an exclusive interview with the official website of Manchester United.
Robin Van Persie proved to be one of the best strikers in the Premier League in recent years in the colours of both Arsenal and Manchester United. He is a controversial figure amongst the Gunners fans after leaving the club to sign for Manchester United in 2012. The Red Devils paid £24m to sign him from Arsenal nine years ago. He is the only player to emerge as the Golden Boot winner in the Premier League in consecutive seasons for two different teams. RVP scored 30 goals for Arsenal in his final season to win the Golden Boot Award before repeating the same feat in his first season at Manchester United with 26 goals.
