Robin van Persie is paying the price for his poor form

Former Manchester United striker Robin van Persie is paying the price for his poor form at Fenerbahce, as he has just been left out of the Netherlands squad once again.

The team, which failed to qualify for Euro 2016 after a disastrous qualification campaign, will be taking on England and France in friendly matches during March. Despite being the leading scorer for the national team with 50 goals in 101 matches, Danny Blind’s squad does not include the 32-year-old. Since his move to Turkey in the summer, van Persie has scored 10 goals for Fenerbahce.

However, his last appearance for the national team was back in October when he played against Czech Republic. It remains to be seen if he has played his last for the national team. Van Persie will certainly be a disappointed man to go out in this fashion. After coming to form since 2010, the former Arsenal man would have hope to get more trophies at club and international level. He has come extremely close after being part of the team that reached the 2010 World Cup final in South Africa. Netherlands, though, have been the nearly men in recent years.Blind’s squad does include regular names like Arjen Robben and Wesley Sneijder.

Young players like Memphis Depay were expected to miss out on a place due to their recent poor form. The Manchester United winger has been inconsistent throughout the 2015-16 campaign. Even his club manager Louis van Gaal threatened the former PSV man that he would not be a first-team regular at a club like Manchester United without consistency. It must be remembered that van Persie was also left out of the friendly matches against Germany and Wales in November. Van Persie scored an own goal in his last appearance for the Dutch national team.
