CRYSTAL PALACE WANT VAN PERSIE

Premier League side Crystal Palace have been surprisingly named one of the prospective employers of former Arsenal and Manchester United star Robin van Persie.

Bookies named Palace one of the key contenders and the likelihood shot up with the appointment of Dutch manager Frank de Boer as the new manager.

The Fenerbahce striker is reported to be open to exiting his Turkish club this summer where he has had a mixed fate. He is a Premier League star who scored 144 goals in 280 league matches. With the 33-year old entering the final year of his contract at the Ulker Stadium, numerous sides have been linked with him.

Feyenoord are the leading side where he could remain until his retirement. He began his career at the Dutch side and could be willing to return but reports claim some directors are not keen on the reunion, preferring to look at other strikers that can deliver the title like Dirk Kuyt. Still, bookies say a return to Feyenoord is 7/4.

Palace are 8/1 to sign Van Persie as they need a striker. De Boer would likely be open to bringing back the player to the Premier League as Selhurst Park need an experienced striker. However, the wage demands and fitness record of the player would come to play.

Sam Allardyce helped Palace stay up at the end of last season but his exit saw De Boer managing the side after his Inter Milan sack last year. The 47-year old managed Ajax in the past and he is hoping for a better fate this time.

Palace have been spending money since American owners Josh Harris and David Blitzer joined in 2015. De Boer promised to play dominating football that fans will enjoy. He is expected to add more players but he said he would give the current ones a trial first.
